Tradechain VR

Turning a shipment of almonds into an immersive experience

In its push for innovation within the Institutional Banking & Markets portfolio, CommBank spearheaded an experiment to see the impact blockchain technology could have on the trade industry. Partnering with other companies, the bank developed a proof of concept to track the shipping of almonds from a farm in Victoria, all the way to a port in Germany, via blockchain. All players in the supply chain had visibility of the entire process, instead of the usual approach made of isolated silos.

After commissioning a series of videos to tell this story, CommBank wanted to turn them into a VR experience that would feature at the prestigious SIBOS conference. As part of a flashy booth, the goal of the experience was to present CommBank to international attendees as the most innovative, techie bank in Australia.

To give relevance to the use of virtual reality, I built a narrative around the notion of 360º visibility provided by blockchain. From a central hub where users could see every link of the supply chain at once around them, they could then explore the process at their leisure – entering a whole world to represent each company and each step of the journey.
